Rabbi Eisenstadt in Doros Huachronim on page 21 writes a biography on Rabbi Sommer http://hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=2266&st=&pgnum=21&hilite=
Interesting, while Eisenstadt has him only have a Ben Yochid (single son) Moshe Summer, in his profile on Geni there is another son Chaim mentioned as well (see http://www.geni.com/people/Yoel-Summer/6000000006166197494#/tab/overview a photo is also avilable)
The Rav according to Eisenstadt lived in Borough Park, Brooklyn where he served as Dayan and took part in the Vaad Hakashrus, his funeral took place in the “Shomre Emunah” shul with which he was affiliated, and he is buried in that Chelka as well, where was that shul located?
The family story I have is that Chaim was niftar in Europe having never reached Bar Mitzvah. It is possible the author did not know of Chaim.
I don’t know yet the exact location of the Shul, but it appears to be mentioned in a Wikipedia article about Rav Zev Gold, the Rav of that shul. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf_Gold
Shomrei Emunah is still located on the corber of 14th Ave and 52nd St. It is one of the only nusach ashkanaz shuls in BP.
Re: Rabbi Yoel Summer is my my mother’s father. my mother Anna Summer – LIpschitz was Reb Yoel’s youngest child.
all children were born in Linovo, Poland or White Russia.
Moshe was the oldest child and oldest son he came over to the U.S. together with the whole family in 1921.Their younger brother Chaim died in Linovo of Cholera, before bar-mitzva.
The Shomrei Emunah Shul is located at 52nd. Street and 14thAve. in Boro Park and exists there until today. to the est of my knowlege it was Rabbi Zev Gold that was maspid my grandfather the day after yom kippur 1938.
Rabbi Zev Gold preceded Rabbi Harry I. Wohlberg as the Rabbi of the shul.
My zeide Reb Yoel Summer was the un-official Rav of the Beis Medrash shul of Shomrei Emunah.
Rabbi Yoel Summer and his wife Rebetzin Sima Rose Sedewitch – Summer had 4 surviving children.

I wish to add to the above that Rabbi Yoel Summer was a talmid of the Brisker Rav, reb Chaim Brisker (Soloveitchik)
He received semicha from Reb Chaim and then received the appointment to be the Rav of Linovo, Poland.
Reb Yoel, had a wealthy sister< Sara Lieberman who sent papers to him to leave poland before WWI, and he asked Reb Chaim, who told him that the שטיינער אין אמריקה זיינען טרייף.
Reb Yoel stayed in Linovo during the war and was almost murdered by Polish poznanchikes.
After WWI , his sister sent him papers to come to America , and the family arrived in 1921.
His only picture is that of the passport which he relunctantly took and wrapped his hand in a handkerchief so that the picture would not be complete, and he would not violate the prohibition of one of the aseret ha-dibrot.
