Rav Dusowitz was both the nassi (president) of the Agudath HaRabonim and the Vaad HaRabonim of Brownsville for many years.

He was very close with Rabbi Moshe Feinstein.
He was my great-grandfather. Although I never met him, and nor did my father (amush), his great legacy burns through my heart. Yehi Zichro Boruch.

This comment is for Eliezer Dusowitz, it mightbe timed out, but me and my brothers are trying to trace family roots. My grandmother’s maiden name was Dusowitz, her first name Esther, and we knew that he was a rav, but not much else. Also my brother is named Yisroel as is my cousin and wondering if this was our great grandfather, thank you.
Basya, Yes, rav yisrael is your great grand father. I believe your cousins are the Simons from Brooklyn. My mother said she met you years ago. So we’re second cousins.

Now after researching Rabbi Levitt, I found out that thie Tiferes Yiroel Cong. where Rabbi Dusowitz was Moreh D’Asra (Rabbi) was not in Brownsville, it was on Willoghby Ave. at the corner of Williamsburg and Bedford-Styvesant.
I am the daughter of Carl Dusowitz, Rabbi Dusowitz’s son. Therefore Rabbi Dusowitz was my grandfather. We lived at 709 Willoghby Ave, one block from the temple and two blocks from Zaddi (excuse my spelling). My office phone number is 516-377-9800.

Youth Is Run Down
Carl DUSOWITZ, 18, of 592 Willoughby avenue, was crossing in front of
his home when he was struck by an automobile driven by Eugene VARRANE,
of 6 Hope street. The youth suffered lacerations was was taken to

Rav Dusowitz was my grandfather. Who is this person that sent this picture? Does he have any other pictures of my Zaidy?

I have a manuscript written by Rav Dusowitz and a sefer in which he wrote some hagahos. I cant read the entire matzeiva but am surprised that no one mentioned his mesiras nefesh for shmiras Shabbos
sjfm: He did indeed write a sefer called “Ha’Shabbos Li’Kadsho”. I actually have the sefer at home.

He was a Lubavitcher Chossid and was also the rov for many years in the Tzemach Tzedek Shul.
He also headed a Chabad organization in the 1940’s.

If anyone other relative would like some help tracing roots, I have done some research. As far as I know, my father’s family is the only Dusowitz left, although there might be some from Florida? Maybe Ms. Roble would know. Thank you.

In a hesped that Zaidy Rav Yisroel Dushowitz gave on behalf of the Rogatchover Gaon in 1936 ,he mentions that h e is quoting from one of the tens of letters of correspondence between the 2 of them (see attachments). An author who works on the writings of the Rogaotchover asked us if we could get our hands on copies of these letters it would help him greatly in his research. I thought you might know of who in the family might be able to help.May the merits of our great Zayde be a zchus for the whole family. Please feel free to forward to anyone who could be of assistance.
Hello and thank you for asking about the correspondences. From my understanding at least some of the correspondences may have been damaged due to water or other external factors. I will try and circle back to see if there is a way of obtaining anything.

The Zayde shul has been repurchased by a Yeshiva. The holy Torah comes back to its home. Also Zadye ‘s 60th Yaherzeit will be 19 Kislev maybe the family should do something in his memory.
There is another Dusowitz. My brother Herbert Dusowitz lives in Florida. I think that he has additional pictures.
The building was purchased by Satmar it’s a great zechiya that it’s back a place of Torah I’m involved with the building and we would like to put a plaque about this great man in the building if anyone has information please let us know on the blog where we can contact you

Hi, I am Noach Borenstein, a great-great grandson of Yisroel Dusowitz, and I was able to research a lot more info about his family, and felt a need to share it with you guys. While some of the Dusowitz’s were born in Latvia, Yisroel Dusowitz and his parents/siblings were born in Mogilew, Belarus. His wife Basya Dusowitz (Berkovich/witz) was born in Rogachev, Gomel, Belarus. His father Shimon Leib Dusowitz married Guta at first, but she died early of an illness, so he remarried Sima Danilevitz Dusowitz, with whom he had Yisroel, Abraham, Movsha Aryeh, and Khaim Mikhel. Abraham died at the age of 1 from a tumor. Shimon Leib had a father named Shmuel. I found the marriage and birth record of Yisroel Dusowitz for whoever is interested. Living in Eretz Yisroel we know your great Aunt and her family the Berlins. If you could send the marriage and birth record that would be great

What I can do is write down the info that the birth/marriage reccord lists.
Marriage: Place: Mogilev, Belarus. Date: 29/5/1897 10 Sivan. Izroil Dushavitskii (age 21) married Basia Berkovich (age 17). Groom’s father: Shimon Leiba. Bride’s father: Kusiel.
Birth: Izroil Dushavitskii in Mogilew. Birth date: September 20, 1876 (it was October 20 but the birth records are always slightly off). Father: Shimon Leiba. Paternal grandfather: Shmuil. Mother: Shima (Sima), Maternal grandfather: Ekhiel Danilovich.
