   The Ziv/Siff family was a big Lithuanian Rabbinic Dynasty descending from Reb Ezriel of Kovno.

   This Reb Azriel Siff lived in Jersey City where he was also a Schochet, his grandson described him as “a distinguished figure, with a long white beard, a top hat and a prince Albert cutaway”

   His father was the Schochet in Rasien, Lithuania and also gave a Shiur for Balie-Batim in the “Chai Adam” Klauz.

   Reb Azreil himself prior to his coming to the US he succeeded his father as Schochet in Rasien and in the role of Magid Shiur in the same shul:

   Tha rabbo today in the Chasam Sofer shul in the Lower East side is named Rabbi Azriel Siff, his father Rabbi Yeshaya Siff is the Rav in the Young Israel shul of Manhattan on East Broadway.

   Wondering if they are Grandchildren of this Reb Azriel

   Rabbi Azriel Siff of the Chasam Sofer shul is the Rav’s great grandson

   I would be interested in knowing about who his siblings were. Is anyone posting here aware of whether or not this family is connected to the Kelm (Chocham Tvi) or Novardok Ziv families?

   I found a matzeive in Baltimore not far from Rabbi Forshlager from another person with the same name and father’s name, the stone reads as follows:

   על האי גברא יקירא דאבד ולא משתכח, ה”ה אבינו הישר באדם מופלג בתורה ויראה, מ’ עזריאל ב”ר גרשון מענדיל זיו

   נפ’ י”ט שבט תרע”ח לפ”ק
   תנצב”ה

   Israel Ziev
   Died Jan. 31 1918
