Rabbi Aharon Jehuda (Aron Leib) Wilner (1899-1986) was the son of Moshe Wilner and Ester Arak. Moshe was the son of Naftali Wilner. Naftali was either a son of or a descendent of Rabbi Shmuel of Halicz. Moshe’s wife was the sister of Gaon Meir Arak. Rabbi Aharon Jehuda Wilner was born at Pluste in 1899. His wife was Chane Weitzenfeld. Their offspring included Leah Wilner z”l (1922-2017) and Rabbi Naftali Wilner (1927-1954), both of whom were born in Vienna. Leah was the wife of Mendel Eiger. Rabbi Naftali Wilner was the husband of Nettie Entner. Rabbi Aharon Jehuda (Aron Leib) Wilner had at least 2 siblings (Naftali and Fryma). My information is based on several year-1994 conversations with Leah Eiger, her son Meyer Eiger, Rabbi J. Howard Ralbag and Bronya Spira, along with further genealogical research.
Additional information:
1. The correct spelling of Rabbi Aharon Jehuda (Aron Leib) Wilner’s birthplace was Tluste which is near Horodenka and Czortkov. At the time of his birth (2/2/1899) it was still part of the Galizien (A.K.A “Galicia”) province of the old Austro-Hungarian Empire. After WW1 it became part of Poland. After World War 2 Tluste became part of Russia and the new spelling of the town became “Tovste” as written in equivalent Cyrillic letters. Nowadays Tovste is part of Ukraine.
2. Aron, his wife and children were Shoah survivors. During World War 2 they were smuggled into Switzerland. They were granted asylum in 1943. United States District Court Southern District of New York naturalization files indicate that Aron was naturalized on 11/25/1952.
